The front moves through later tonight and the high temperature tomorrow only near 60. It will be almost 30 degrees colder.

I have a feeling this thread is going to become quite large in the coming weeks. What I'm really interested in is southern Ontario's very warm weather that is coming this week and if it becomes a historic "heat-wave" for March that can compare to March 2000 and 1990. We're off to a great start and the forecast temps. are really encouraging. The main day this week will be the 15th where 20ºC+ is possible in many areas of the province.

I've been waiting so many years to see a March like this and its finally panning out. It's possible this for us in Ontario is a once in a decade type March Break for warmth but I want to see an once in a century type come to fruition . Overall, the weather pattern is playing out exactly the way I wanted it to and inserted in the 2012 Predictions thread that March would start off really warm and Spring would be record breaking (for southern Ontario).

Historically speaking, when all is said and done, this spell of double digit temperatures for Southern Ontario has the potential to leave all those other March warm spells way way in the distance. Working to the advantage of this March is no snow cover almost anywhere in Southern Ontario....and no leaves on the trees. Leaves sweat. Because of this seating, called transpiration, some of the sun's energy, otherwise responsible for heating, contributes to evaporation instead. Thus, the lush foliage of summer dampens daytime warmth.
But early in the year, before the landscape turns rich and green, less of this heating energy is sapped. An air mass that might lack the thermal punch in the summer is heated more efficiently by the sun during the spring , ummm late winter in this case haaaa.

16.6 in ottawa yesterday was good enough for a new daily record. Normally in march Ottawa sees three days with temps over 10 deg c but would not be suprised to see ten or fifteen such days this month.

One more location to add to yesterday's Canadian records.... and this one is truly shocking! +12C would normally be quite a feat for a Saskatchewan location to reach at this time of year never mind what it did hit.

Val Marie is Canada's first location to reach the +20's in 2012
