Dr Greg Forbes

#1 Postby Tireman4 » Thu May 01, 2014 10:42 am

Dr. Greg Forbes, who did yeoman's work on the last outbreak of severe weather made an announcement on his Facebook page:

I will probably be in the hospital from Friday to Monday and will not be posting here until I am home and beginning to recover. I do plan to resume my posting of severe weather forecasts once I'm home and able. It will probably be several weeks before I'm back on The Weather Channel, once my stamina returns sufficiently.

If you read below you will see a message distributed by David Clark of The Weather Channel, the public announcement that I have colon cancer. I will be having surgery on Friday afternoon, and the doctors expect that the cancer has been caught early and that I will have a full recovery.

Jim Cantore and I recorded a public service announcement about my health situation that The Weather Channel will begin airing today. In it I urge everyone to see their doctor annually for a physical exam. Were it not for the blood test during my physical exam, I might not have realized that I had cancer until it was too late.

More From Dr. Forbes:

The blood test in my annual physical showed that my iron level was about 20% low. This prompted my physician to prescribe additional tests to try to find out why, including a colonoscopy. The colonoscopy revealed a cancerous growth. Additional tests have not shown any evidence that the cancer has spread to other organs, so the prognosis is good.
