He has 10" now and is expecting 2'!!! 2"/hr heading into his area now!! And here I am stuck in the cool dreary south!!! 44f and cloudy in Houston with a 35f windchill.

On radar the storm is INCREDIBLE stretching out over 1500 mi E-W and beginning to take a classic comma shape as the low off the E seaboard takes over. SLOW MOVER!!!! Will take a week or more for some areas to recover IMO. If we had that here in Houston we would take a year to recover!!! :o Like you said a bullseye of 36" in the WVA, MD, DC area is not out of the question!!

Models have backed way off on the far south having a froze precip event AGAIN!!! But some areas that are getting pounded now will get it again next week! :?: :o

Yes, it's usually but not always cloud to cloud ... there have been cases of cloud-to-ground (CG) lightning strikes during snowstorms being particularly severe ... but usually it's just cloud to cloud ...

I've seen 4 thunderstorms with snow .
The first was with thundersleet and thundersnow Jan 15, 1988.
The next three was with Feb 16th, 1996 - the same ULL core which sparked the Blizzard of 1996. The first produced graupel (soft hail, snow pellets) and other two was all snow.
