tornado warning Pickens County and Tuscaloosa County...

#1 Postby WXBUFFJIM » Thu Feb 05, 2004 6:39 pm

The severe weather continues here at this hour across Mississippi and now into western Alabama. Pickens County, Alabama is now under a tornado warning. This tornado warning is in effect until 6 PM CST.

At 5:24 PM CST, doppler radar indicated a tornadic thunderstorm near Cochrane moving northeast at 35 mph. Locations near the path of this tornadi include Aliceville, Carrollton, and Cochrane.

This is a dangerous thunderstorm with a possible rain wrapped tornado. The tornado maybe hard to see. Don't wait until you see or hear it coming. It's dark anyways. Best advice is seek a sturdy shelter inside the lowest floor of your home, preferably a basement or a small interior room away from windows.

A tornado watch is in effect until 11 PM CST. Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes without advanced warning. A flood watch is also in effect and there are many counties in the southern US under flood warnings. Do not drive through flooded roadways. It's way too dangerous as you don't know how deep that water is. The #1 flood related fatality nowadays occurs in vehicles that drive through flood waters. Turn around and don't drown. It will save your life.
