URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
TORNADO WATCH NUMBER 294
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
110 PM CDT WED MAY 26 2004

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
WESTERN KENTUCKY
SOUTHERN MISSOURI

EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 110 PM UNTIL
900 PM CDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS
TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 155 STATUTE MILES EAST AND
WEST OF A LINE FROM 20 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF WEST PLAINS
MISSOURI TO 65 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF VICHY MISSOURI.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA.
PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING
WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE
WARNINGS.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...THIS TORNADO WATCH REPLACES SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 292. WATCH NUMBER 292 WILL NOT BE IN
EFFECT AFTER 110 PM CDT. CONTINUE...WW 293...

DISCUSSION...A PAIR OF SURFACE BOUNDARIES REMAIN IN PLACE OVER
WW...WITH MAIN SURFACE FRONT EXTENDING FROM SRN IL INTO CENTRAL MO
AND AN OUTFLOW BOUNDARY EXTENDING NWWD FROM WRN KY INTO SERN MO.
AIR MASS IS BECOMING VERY UNSTABLE AND WEAKLY CAPPED SOUTH OF THE
MAIN SURFACE FRONT...SUGGESTING FURTHER DEVELOPMENT OF SURFACE-BASED
STORMS IS LIKELY. VERY LONG HODOGRAPHS FAVOR SPLITTING
SUPERCELLS...WITH A THREAT OF TORNADOES NEAR AND SOUTH THE
BOUNDARIES ACROSS SRN 2/3S OF WW. NORTH OF THE FRONT...SUPERCELLS
SHOULD REMAIN ELEVATED WITH PRIMARY THREAT OF LARGE HAIL.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND
GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500.
MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 27035.

We're out of a watch for now, but it looks like some of the storms out west will be coming this way.
