A look back: Topeka Tornado, June 8th, 1966

On the night of Wednesday, June 8th, 1966 a tornado ripped through the capital city of Kansas. It went over Burnett's Mound, a Mound that was sacred, because Chief Burnett was burried there, and he said it would protect the city from tornadoes. 3 years earlier, despite the public concern, a water tower was built on the mound.

At 7:01PM, the tornado was spotted coming over the mound. It hit SouthWest Topeka with F5 damage.
