Where did this come from??

#1 Postby crazy4disney » Tue Jul 06, 2004 4:48 pm

I know we had a 30% chance of basic garden variety summer showers, but apparently it is now flooding at my house. And here in downtown Houston, it is *pouring*... the thunder keeps going and going, and our lights keep flickering. Sheesh...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LEAGUE CITY HAS ISSUED AN URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR.

HARRIS COUNTY IN SE TX
NORTHER BRAZORIA COUNTY IN SE TX

UNTIL 615 PM CDT

AT 405 PM CDT. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAIN FROM PEARLAND & SO. HOUSTON NORTHWARD ACROSS THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF HOUSTON. RAINFALL RATES ARE BETWEEN 1 & 2 INCHES PER HOUR. THE STORMS WERE
DEVELOPING NORTHWARD & MOVING NE AROUND 10 MPH. MUCH OF METROPOLITAN HARISCOUNTYWILL EXPERIENCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAIN OVER THE RUSH HOUR.

AREAS OF FEEDER ROAD & STREET FLOODING FLOODING IS EXPECTED THROUGH RUSH HOUR ESPECIALLY INSIDE LOOP 610 & THE SO. PORTIONS OF THE AREA INSIDE THE SAM HOUSTON TOLLWAY.

Basically it was sea breeze storms moving very slowly and also the product of some of these storms merging together before they finally dump all of thier rain and fizzle out. Have at least the same if not better chance of rain tomorrow too. Got a good little shower at the house and a downpur at the office near Westheimer and Gessner, but not flooding.

From the radar, it looks like my house is getting hammered at the moment... no rain here in downtown Hou. yet, but at least I remembered to roll my windows up today. :)

Looks to me like http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT ... -loop.html this shows a lot of upper level stuff moving southeasterly towards the coast of TX and some dense stuff ("stuff"...can ya tell I'm an amateur?) moving towards the Hou/Galv area. And I'm thinking when that stuff clashes, it's not gonna be pretty here.

In more true met terms, what am I really seeing?
