Severe Weather hits hard in coastal South Carolina Today!!

#1 Postby jeff and shirens weather » Sun Jul 11, 2004 5:11 pm

Parts of the lowcountry get hard hit for the fourth day in a row. Summerville, Moncks Corner, charleston; were all hard hit. Summerville had thunderstorm cloud tops as high as 55,000 ft. Severe weather hit Summerville with torrential rains, damaging thunderstorm winds, and lightening strikes on homes causing fires. Ido not know at this time if anyone got hurt or killed. Numerous trees and powerlines are down on Bacons bridge road, also on Niblick road in the Corry woods area and old gulf road. Charleston county confirmation on hail ping pong size with large trees down at Charlestowne landing in the West Ashley area. County officials at the park confirmed this on Weather Underground. Other reports have came in also in different areas. I mentioned these because they were the most damage extensive I could find. My parents live in Summerville and my brothers. I have been trying to get in touch with them for more damage confirmation. The radar out of Charleston when I saw the thunderstorm over the area showed it not moving much.

Yep ... though up here in Atlanta some strong storms have hit hard up here as well .. and my friend's mother up in Acworth had a MAJOR storm today. All power out, trees and power lines down, large hail, torrential rains, etc...

I just started a thread elsewhere in this forum regarding such and the trend looks to continue the next several days ...
