Norfolk, VA received 3 1/3 inches of rain overnight last night from a local thunderstorm. Right now, Norfolk is under a flash flood warning as another cell has simply stalled over the city of Norfolk. The flash flood warnning is valid until 3:30 PM EDT. At 1:26 PM EDT, Law Enforcement officials reported flooding in the city of Norfolk, VA. Other areas impacted impacted include Norview, Oceanview, Norfolk Intl Airport, and Ghent. Excessive runoff will continue for quite sometime even after the heavy rainfall has ended. Remember not to cross yourself or your vehicle into flooded roadway as it can be a very dangerous situation. Turn around don't drown is the weather service's magic saying when it comes to flooding.
We also have a flash flood warning in effect for Wight and Surry Counties in southeast Virginia in effect until 3:30 PM. At 1:20 PM, Law enforcement reported extensive flooding under a bridge along route 10 near the Surry/Isle Of Wight County line. The storm was drifting very slowly WNW at 5 mph.
In both areas, rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches is possible additionally through 3:30 PM. Remember that heavy rainfall from overnight. Today's rain will likely just aggreviate the situation. Thus turn around don't drown.
