I meant to leave this post up last night but I was having difficulty getting online. Yesterday we got hit hard with heavy rain which led to severe flooding here in Berea and other surrounding areas. It all started around 7:30 a.m. and ended around noon. Heavy rain fell over the same areas for almost five hours. Here in Berea we had between four to 6 inches of rain. Doppler radar estimates in some areas reached 8 inches. This led to severe flooding here in Berea with evacuations and dramatic rescues. Creeks and streams over flowed their banks. The Saluda river dam reached the top level. They were closely monitoring it for any possible breakage. Downtown Greenville also got slammed. The Reedy river reached above flood stage putting life and property in danger. My family and I drove through downtown Greenville. Areas like Woodside and West Parker were a mess. These areas are areas where the river spilled over. People were out their watching just inches from where the water was. A church had water surrounded by it. There was a car out in the water with only the very top part of it showing. This car happen to be a car I later found out had a couple in it who had to be rescued from earlier. They lost their car but fortunately not there lives. They ventured out thinking they could cross a road and found out the power of water was too strong to fight. We looked to our left on the opposite side and saw a house surrounded by water. The water was about 15 feet high around the house. There was no land to be found in that area. Flood warnings were extended clear until midnight. The Reedy river crested twice its amount above flood stage and so did the lower forks shoal. Flood watches stayed in effect until 6:00 a.m. more rain fell into the evening but this was much lighter. WYFF news in Greenville said that their was 75 rescues and one injury. They said that the damage estimated would be in the 10,s of millions of dollars. The rain that occurred yesterday from what I could tell was an isolated training effect. The rain kept going over the same areas. More scattered rain is in the forecast forecast for today.
                                                                                                                Jeff And Shirens weather
