Storms in KC Leading to Serious Flash Flooding

Hi All,
I just wanted to let you all know that there is some serious flash flooding going on in the KC area. I have been on the south side of the storms for the past hour or so. We've only had a little rain but have seen lots of lighning and heard lots of thunder. However, some parts of KC are getting deluge. In fact, I read on the NOAA site that Brush Creek along Ward Parkway is rising very rapidly.. going from 35 feet to 42 feet in just a matter of minutes. Flood stage is 47 feet. It is still raining in that area as I can see the storm off to my NW.

Worse part is with storms northwest of you and southwest of you, training those over KC is not good at all. The key phrase to folks in the KC area is as simple as turn around don't drown. Most people die driving their vehicle through flood waters, and at night. This just makes it even more dangerous. Glad you reported this to us. Hopefully this stuff leaves downtown KC area soon.

It is all off to my north and NW. It looks like The Plaza is getting hit.

SW Blvd will flood tonight... Turkey Creek is forecast to crest at 64 feet. Looks like business on the Blvd will be cleaning up this weekend.

Major flooding at 64 feet too. Also just got a statement that I 35 at SW blvd is shut at this time. Travel in the KC area is strongly not reccomended at this point.

No injuries or deaths from the high water. There have been at lesst 27 water rescues tho.

We had 2 1/2 inches of rain here last night. That means in the last 9 days, we've had 5 1/2 inches of rain here at the house.

Wow Kristi! Well at least the rain is moving out this morning and you can dry out now. Glad to hear that there were no deaths or serious injuries!

Figured something was up. I was flying back from Milwaukee last night. We were delayed by about 3 hours. Figured something had to be up. I checked my Yahoo mail via my cell phone and got my Notify! messages about Flash Flooding and Severe Thunderstorms. I got a laugh out of the people standing around going, "But, I need to get home!" Some people will never learn that you can't conquer mother nature. You just have to roll with the punches she throws at ya. I just sat there in the terminal, popped on my headphones and listened to music while reading a book.

Glad you made it home safely! It was quite a storm in northern Johnson and southern Wyandotte counties in KS, NW Jackson and southern Clay counties in MO. The heaviest storms were to our NW by a few miles.
