Just back from Denver - good sign for the West?

I was out there visiting my father from Wednesday until this evening. Thursday, the weather was in the low 80's. On Friday we had rain ALL DAY LONG, which was the first time I've EVER experienced that when I've been out there and the temps were in the low 60's. They had snow on the Front Range at 10,000 ft. and higher. This morning the skies were a brilliant blue and I could see the snow on the mountains!!!

Everything was MUCH GREENER than the pas tfew years. I'm usually out there in August. My father said that Colorado Springs had had over 4 inches of rain this month ( higher than normal). The rain on Friday gave another 1 - 3 inches to the area. Actually, I felt like I was back home in NJ, (without the humidity).

Hopefully, this is signifying and change fro the better out there in the West.

yeah....channel 9news had online video of the road outside of RMNP being closed for 6 hours and everyone looking at the snow covered peaks, beautiful.....they said that the road had up to 2foot snow drifts...also saw that MT. EVAns scenic Byway was closed (ive driven up this...cars do not perform well at 14K Feet...) i'll be heading out that way in about 3 weeks...looking forward to seeing a green Denver...

Did it snow in Summit County? I haven't been to Colorado in two years. I usually visit the Summit County area. When I was there in Sept. 2002, Lake Dillon was way down.

I'm not sure where Summit County is in Colorado, but I think it's in the northern part of the state. The snow occurred mostly in the northern part of the state. I'm sure that there were many peaks that were covered. From Denver, you can see Mt. Evans and to the north, Long's Peak and they had snow caps.

frankthetank - it was nice to see Colorado as green as it was this visit. Last year it was almost frightening how brown everything was.

Summit County is about 75 miles west of Denver. It is home To Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain ski areas.

I'm sure there was snow there then simplykristi. Mt. Evans, Long's Peak and RMNF all had snow which is in and around those areas.

Glad we are not heading up there this year I am NOT a big fan of snow.

Sorry Stephanie.....your obs are GREAT for Colorado however, the drought is getting MUCH worse here in Az.......there "IS" a glimmer of HOPE on the horizon though, it appears El Nino COULD make a GREAT show here in the southwest this coming winter, GOD let's HOPE SO!
