New to the forum

#1 Postby riverratmike » Mon Sep 13, 2004 10:21 pm

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum. I am a amuteur lightning photographer. I live here in LHC, AZ where the lightning can get very intense and is beautiful and the same time. I'm always outside with my camera every chance I get. Here are some of my images.

Welcome to Storm2K riverratmike! Very impressive pictures! Thanks so much for posting them. Gives me shivers to view them but they're awesome in all their splendor at the same time.

We have two active AZ posters that come to mind - azsnowman and azskyman. Look them up when you have time. Both love living in AZ also.

Check out our off topic forum when wx is dull too. Not right now, but when it's calm across the country, OT is a busy place.

Indeed Welcome Aboard! As one of a handful of Arizona representatives here on Storm2k, good to see you and learn of your interest in weather (and espcially lightning). A VERY occasional visitor here, ArizWx actually has been very involved with some national lightning network work out of the Tucson area.

I live in NE Phoenix, and the other more frequent visitor to Storm2k..is Dennis in Pinetop...at the opposite end of the state from you.

Glad to have you on board. You are right about lightning here...often as crisp and clear as you depict in your great photos because of the high base storms that roam the state.

Beautiful pictures.

I used to have a great aunt who lived in Parker, AZ not far from you. We always enjoyed traveling to Lake Havasu City to see the London Bridge and other sites.

Come back often!

Those are some great pictures that you have. I have tried to get lightning photos, but I just don't have the right equipment. Welcome to Storm2k, I'm sure it will be fun for you as well as the rest of us.

thanks everyone, is this the correct forum to post lightning images? cause I have quite a few. If you go to my profile you can see more of them. looks like the AZ monsoon as ended for now so won't be posting that much unless something comes up. Here's a photo I took last year Aug 2003. This cloud was dumping tons of rain, never seen anything like this before....

yeah your right, well I've always been interested in the weather and just last year I got my first digital camera where I have the feature of having a open shutter. So every chance I get now when I see lightning I'll be out taking photos of it.

Very cool photos, man. Looks like you've seen your share of serious weather out in AZ. Wow, I've seen a few clouds dropping heavy rain from a distance before, but what's going on in that photo definitely takes the cake.

thanks it was amazing to see! I'll never forget it. There was lightning in that storm also that day. Unbelievable how much rain that cloud is dumping. I've only lived here in AZ for 2 years now and have already seen some incredible storms!

You'll see lots more nice boomers-August 25,2003 we had a severe boomer here with lots of wind damage and street flooding though our big storm last year was a monster on July 25th. BTW I am the forgotten AZ poster-often it seems convenient to forget me. I was Chief of the Fort Huachuca Met Team from 1986-95 and have lived in the "Place of Thunder" since 1986. I am also an active storm chaser both here and in the Plains and have witnessed a number of AZ tornadoes.

Aslkahuna - oops sorry, from now on I won't forget YOU! I guess when I think of AZ members, it goes back to our days on TWC boards - a long time ago. But that's silly - we certainly have more than 2 members from AZ at Storm2K now, as you pointed out!

Again, my apologies.
