FIRST Year's Santa Ana Winds whip up Southern California!

#1 Postby Tornado_Chaser2005 » Tue Sep 21, 2004 2:37 pm

Ah fall is sure showing itself. No more heat with no wind, now we have our Santa Ana winds. Last night I looked at the models, and I did my own forecast for thw winds. The models showed they would start about 1am or so. Well 12am passed, went outside, nothing. Although in the upper sky, I could see what looked like clouds coming from the desert. They were the start of thw winds at mid levels carrying the dust over me, about 40 miles away! Went back out at 1am, and it was getting breezy. Not onshore like usual, or the marine layer clouds would be in, but offshore. It was a warm wind. Very comfortable. Went back out at 3am, and it was getting stronger, and stronger. Went to sleep, got back up at 12pm, and wow! they were blowing trees down around me, and trashcans that werent mine were in my pool! and I have a blockwall around it!! Really crazy day.

Here in Orange County; winds are from the northeast at 20 MPH or so with some gusts a bit higher. Temperatures are running in the upper 80s to low 90s with very low humidities (15% or less). This is supposed to continue tomorrow then slowly diminish as the rest of the week wears on.

My thermometer has already recorded a high of 94.7 today. And that was in the SHADE.

It was 93 degrees along the coast here at my location today. Now I know a taste of what it feels like to live in the deserts. :P

you need to be 15-20 degrees warmer to have it feel like the Desert. Your 93F is cooler than our AVERAGE daily high here at 4500' in Sierra Vista in late June into mid July. We aren't considered desert here but rather Savannah grasslands.

true that, I occasianally get up to 115-120 here in the summer. Hot indeed, and when humidity is mixed, oh boy!

Well it WAS 100 degrees here on the day before Labor Day...

*pouts*

Trust me I know what 100 degrees WITH humidity feels like. I lived in Orlando, FL a few years back and I felt that every day for two summers in a row; including the infamous Summer of 1998. (Any Southerner will know about that one.)
