Check out my post in the winter forum....this is one heck of a storm. There is heavy thundersnow falling in central IL right now. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the developing squall line and supercells to the west of me now.

I've only seen it once when I was 13 or 14...that was during Louisville's big snow where some places saw 2'. That's basically unheard of here. Anyway, there are reports of places in IL with 8" on the ground already, snow still falling. AMAZING! This storm is outperforming most forecasts and forecasters. It is to be expected though with the dynamics and thermodynamics in place. It looks like Lafayette (where I usually am) may see up to 3" overnight! Still waiting for the storms here though....supercells becoming more distinct and stronger....

There are High Wind/Winter Weather Advisories like crazy out there! Meanwhile, one county south of me and East of me and West of me there is a Tornado Watch. Looks like we are close enough to some storms that may begin to rotate during the next 2-3 hours.

I've only experienced thundersnow once while skiing in Colorado. The temps were right around freezing and it began to lightly snow, then the thunder started and suddenly heavy heavy graupel began to fall and it almost felt like hailstones hitting your body as we were skiing. Needless to say we called it a day after that!

Saw thundersnow last year, it was my first time, but from what I hear, it is pretty common here. Oswego averages 5 thundersnow events per year last time I heard.

We've not had the thundersnow down here in my area, Purdue, but we've had a couple of tornado warnings in the surrounding areas. Coming home from the vet at 4 pm it was 62 degrees.

There was also a TVS Signature on a storm briefly in Morgan County. I am in Johnson County just to the east.

Looked pretty cool in the skies when the dry punch went overhead. Snow a coming!!

Hey Michael, I'm south of you in Brown County. There was also a tornado warning for Bartholomew County (Columbus) and one touched down and did some damage at Greensburg.

2 lines of showers/storms came through the Louisville area, now it's cooling off very rapidly from the highs near 70 earlier...only in the 40's at my parents place now. It's EXTREMELY windy too, I was getting blown all over the road. I noticed the snow in Lafayette too...they're supposed to get 1-3" tonight, but it'll probably be gone by the time I get back up there this weekend.

I didn't hear about that one in Greensburg. Have you heard any reports from The National Weather Service of where they were on the F Scale? I think it has been awhile since that area has seen a tornado. Probably be next couple of days we will know for sure.

About 1 inch and it probably is gone by now. New Whiteland had a dusting on the ground from a squall at about 4AM. It is pretty much gone as soon as the sun came out and melted it.

Only experienced thundersnow once... Blizzard of 1993. 13" total in about 8 hours(rained until that).

Once in a lifetime storm.

I was on the highway coming home from the veterinarian office in Columbus when the Bartholomew County tornado warning was in effect. Turned on the tv a bit a later after unloading my dog and the weatherman (can't remember which station) said there had been a touchdown in Greensburg. Think at that point it was unconfirmed. When I watched the news last night they said a tractor/trailer had been flipped over but it was still undetermined if it was high winds or a tornado, so not sure now if it even was a tornado after all. My sis, who lives in Lafayette, said the snow storms up there were quite something.
