A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the tri state area and parts of western New England valid until 2 PM EST. Severe thunderstorms with dangerous lightning, hail to one inch in diameter, and wind gusts to 70 mph are possible.
A broken line of strong to severe thunderstorms is roaring through extreme eastern Pennsylvania. As we approach midday, severe thunderstorms with wind gusts of 60-70 mph are possible in the New York City area. For the parade in NYC, Enjoy it now. Towards the end of the parade, conditions could potentially get iffy with wind gusts nearing 70 mph in some places. Outside of thunderstorms expect winds of 15-25 mph with gusts of 30-35 mph.
The bottom line is the end of the Macys Thanksgiving day parade in NYC could get quite interesting particularly towards the end with respect to thunderstorms and damaging wind gusts possible. Otherwise expect the winds to pick up with falling temps in NYC this afternoon.
No matter where you're at, have yourself a happy and safe thanksgiving.
