It was scary southwest of Atlanta RP...real nasty! There are two trees down in my dad's yard near Newnan, and a funnel cloud passed right over their neighborhood...per Coweta county 911 (the video from the Channel 2 live crew was unbelievable from Newnan...the wind blew down signs and ripped the flag off a flagpole. It has to be 65-70 mph...maybe hurricane force.
Apparently a strong tornado struck east of Newnan...the Lower Fayetteville Road/ Shenandoah Boulevard area just east of I-85 eastward to Thomas Crossroads then toward Tyrone and Peachtree City. Scanner reports of several homes badly damaged in a subdivision and roofs damaged and trees down on many others.
We've had tornado sirens in Douglasville since 1999. Before this week, I've heard them blaring during tornado warnings three times....I've heard them activated for tornado warnings FIVE times in the past 72 hours!!
