Unbelievable! Just incredible storms hit my area early this morning! I was at work, and I was watching the lightning in the high desert. It all subsided a bit, then bam lightning everywhere! The marine layer which is suppose to be nothing but a mist trasformed into a huge thunderstorm cluster! The bases of the storms were about 500 feet. Lightning everywhere. Its been years since I've seen lightning like this, and the lightning was not like Southern California. More like that of the Severe Storms in the plains in the spring! Lightning shot everywhere every second all around. Some rotation looked like it was evident in some of these cells on radar. It was absolutly amazing! This was NOT summer at all. It was cold, it was hailing big, it was darn right windy. We had a low pressure system off the coast that of a winter storm! I mean wow? August? I think not.

Imagine Driving Home From Vegas In That!!
My wife & I came back from Vegas on Sunday late afternoon and we drove through some awesome thunderstorms. The lightning, cloudburst, hail and thunder were something to see.
Of course it took us 7 hours to get home, so that wasn't fun, but the weather sure made it entertaining.

EDIT: Don't you mean 8-14-05?
It was the morning of the 15th. Night of the 14th was high desert action I watched from work, and the morning of the 15th it hit me hard at work in Ontario. It was amazing! I hope to see more of this. Another low pressure system looks like its coming in this week, wed-thurs timeframe, so we will see what that will do!

Sorry for my typo about your typo, anyway what I meant to say was that the title of this thread is a bit misleading, I thought the thunderstorm occurred last year.

Could be some action today
We could have some action today in Socal due to another low pressure system spinning off the coast. LA & SB counties seem to be in the most favored areas. We will see if we have something close to a repeat of last Sunday & Monday, that should be fun!

Yeah Aveo, seems like it. Looking at the models, it seems we have saturated moisture in the 850 to 700mb levels. The day is cool, much like it was august 14th. The low pressure system is off the coast, seems like it will do something! Its already pulling in moisture, and instability. The 500MB temps will be the same as they were that night as well. Models track this low NE over the Mojave Desert, when the last one went due north up near Santa Barbara. This should allow increasing chances of thunderstorms in the entire area tonight into tomorrow morning if the models hold out. We also have a very good 850mb theta-e showing instabliity is great. Helicity levels are also high enough for a possible funnel cloud, maybe even a tornado? Never know, but ill be watching tonight!

The funnel cloud was near Sierra Vista. Actually, insofar as SE AZ is concerned, the weather has actually been more or less normal for this time of year. Rainfall last month was 4.49in which is a bit above normal and so far this month we are at 4.50in which is a decnt amount for this time of the month.
