Lightning Damage at Charleston AFB

#1 Postby pojo » Tue Aug 23, 2005 10:38 pm

This happened Monday afternoon around 1215pm when an extremely powerful thunderstorm moved through the area. Lightning was flying everywhere, rain was coming down in blinding sheets.

Just outside of the Aerial Port fenceline was this particular tree. If I would have arrived at the warehouse 1 min earlier, I possible would have felt the jolt from the lightning hitting the tree. I was driving on the main drag on base when the bolt hit the tree... it was a deafening sound!
