I'd swear it was a derecho, but I didn't hear any thunder.
The sky got very dark, and we were hit by some serious wind. The rain was striking my building so hard it sounded just like hail. I was worried that large chunks (and I mean large) of the oak tree outside were going to end up in my living room, but the tree seems to have stayed more or less intact. Of course I haven't been to the ground floor of my high rise yet, and there may be debris there.
The intensity reminded me of being at the periphery of tornados in the midwest. In fact my first impulse was Tornado!" until my rational mind engaged and told me that weather conditions were not right for a tornado.
I'm trying to figure this one out. I looked at the radar and saw something derecho-like, and turned on TWC, and, as usual, got nothing that answered my questions about what just hit us.
If any of you are downstream of this thing, take it seriously. Don't be outside or inside something flimsy when it arrives, and don't try to drive through it.
Whoa! What just hit Burlington VT?

Weather!
Hi! I'm here in Boston and have been watching the severe weather march across my state. It should be here with me shortly. The winds I've been experiencing all morning are really strong. I work on the 20th floor of a high-rise and can hear the windows creek and the blinds are swaying! I love to watch thunderstorms from up here but this wind is bothering me! Glad you're okay!

I was at work when that line pushed through here. I could hear rain slamming on the windows but I didn't witness the action as the blinds were shut (and I was in conference at the time).
However, as I was driving home shortly afterwards through the tail end of the rain, I noticed a good deal of tree leaves and branches all over the roads like nothing I'd seen after storms this summer. I was like, "Man, there must have been some 40 mph wind gusts at least..."
