December 1974 Storm

#1 Postby Dave R » Fri Nov 11, 2005 7:07 pm

I have a question for anyone who lived in the NJ/NY area back in 1974. If I remember correctly, there was a very intense storm on the night of either Dec 1st or 2nd of that year that brought wind gusts to over hurricane force in the NYC area. I was living in a town called Bayonne, NJ and I'll never forget the winds at about 3:00 AM. The easterly winds were absolutely incredible, and the rain was unbelievable. It looked and sounded like a hurricane. This storm did not bring snow to the NYC metropolitan area and I'm not sure whether any fell in the mountains to the north and west. I've never seen or heard anything about this storm in any weather book or internet site. If you remember that storm, please let me know.
