Did anyone else watch this last night?
I thought it was quite a surprising program given that it was FoxNews producing it. There was some quite good information, particularly in the first half.
Later on it kind of devolved into fluff- way too much about Laurie David and environmental summer camp etc. I think that time could have been better spent better delineating the precise state of current knowledge, including some input from responsible critics like Chris Landsea or Roger Pielke Sr.

Fox News Global Warming report

I saw it was more like a fill-in for the network to compete with TWC and CBS. What I got out of it was hypocrisy of the American society to curb the threat. You saw how Glacier Natl Park has just small slabs of ice left on the rocky peaks. That's not some decadal or multi-decadal oscillation of drought in the West it's true GW. When everybody from the bantering Democratic senators to the dumb celebrities understands the threat, yet do absolutely nothing. Oh sure, there is these other alternative fuel sources but is that gonna cut consumption, reduce waste, stabilize the world population. NO! All it does is allow the oil industry to capitalize on the crisis and still have to use more energy to produce these substitutes.
Anybody wonder how the ethanol is made. They plow the fragile fertile soil then leave it there to die. Of course farmers who wanted help from the government but didn't get it since the drought began take radical steps to survive. Just like the 1930s when each farmer went field to field and abused the land If this ethanol program gets more popular you'll have the recipe for another Dust Bowl. And from the way it has been dry for 6 yrs that may not be far off. It's so stupid to hear the Indy racing league will shift to this alternative fuel by 2007 and expect the sport to look better. If anything our sports and it's stadium with crowds are the number one reason so much trash is produced. How about we stop being watchers and entertainers and train ourselves to become thinkers and innovators. The lazier we get the more dumb we are.
I was hoping Katrina would be a slap on the face for materialistic ownership. Like seeing on Season of Fury: Hur. 2005 that local news reporter touring her house and see the before pictures with extravagant stuff like a big flat screen tv or that gazeebo. She should have put that money into reinforcing her home. I don't feel sorry for those who had the money but spent it on crap. If we're going to help the environment let's stop making the crap so we aren't able to buy the crap. Plain and simple, but "oh no that would hurt the economy!" says Bush.
You want to make the excuse that if India and China with billions of polluters doesn't do anything then we don't need to either. WTF We are the reason they are have turned to cars for transportation thanks to our outsourcing of manufacturing. The environmentalists pushed our government to move our industries overseas to help clean our skies. Congratulations you bunch of hypocrites have caused a backfire and now CO2 levels have quadrupled since 2000 when SE Asia's econmomic boom started. Same will happen if the Mideast gets "democratized" with more cars and more Muslims buying needless necessities.
Not all of this was in the program but I'm telling you what's behind the facts. If you think the environmentalists have done good you are an idiot. They only manipulate the system thinking up new ways to bash capitalism or act like morons trying to save one piece of land. For God sakes they try to mettle with Nature's property and make it better using all these counteractive processes which only make the situation worse. A good example would be stop the thinning of trees and forest fires. Let me inform you these treehuggers use the same ways of transportation with gas-guzzling cars, fly as much as politicians do to promote their books, and probably own large houses. The irony is the reason our gas prices have spiked is due to the enviromentally "insane" forcing the oil industry to shutdown refineries to curb emissions and set the goal of 7% reduction in pollution by next year.
At least they did show solar energy was the way to go, clean and simple. Except all of us think it's too expensive to install. Well, if your mayor and other community officials would get off the butts and take advantage of the savings down the road everyone would have them already. It's all because everyone is thinking about the present, never caring about the future. You got Baby Boomers who say I don't care since they'll be dead to party going college students wasting their money and will end up as waste of space. Those enviroment science camps are at least one of the best ideas someone has finally figured out. To hear those kids at the conclusion of the program say we'll be the ones dealing with what today's adults have done. It was surprising how smart they are to know something must be done. Just hope their mentor says it needs to be a revolution not some small steps. These little leaps are embarassing and frankly I'm getting sick of waiting around for a cheap hybrid.
But I'm a hypocrite too who produces the same waste as most, uses fossil fuels to heat, doesn't recycle, is a watcher not a thinker. My belief is we want the worst to come to see the power of God. Just like the idiots in Day After Tomorrow or Cat-7 movie. For every problem there are no solutions and if one is made something will cause it to backfire in the first place. Just let Nature take it's course and live the good life then face the cosequences later. That's the way it is with everything else. Let's just face it we're like the residents in Gulfport,MS to New Orleans who didn't listen, never prepared, and were sitting ducks.
