Severe Weather Season Skips S/SE TX Again??
It seems like severe weather season has skipped the far southern plains/South Texas and went straight to the central plains and midwest. It did this last year too. It's getting frustrating down here - not only a shortage of active weather but we keep missing out on our spring rains and we go into summer with a rainfall deficit. Also, it seems like the DFW metro area doesn't get the storms like they used to either. Is this a fluke or a long-term trend?

The storms have definately been missing south Louisiana as well. I can't even remember the last time we had a thunderstorm (was back in February). We are quickly settling into a moderate drought with no relief in sight. If we don't start getting rains later in April we'll be heading into the hottest months of the year in a severe drought which will only compound the problems.

Hopefully someday I will be welcomed back to April 2003 when I had a huge supercell drop golfball+ size hail and 65 mph winds...one most exciting nights of my life...incredable.
P.S. Dr. Jonah Rainwater, I remember that. I think one night we had 3 or 4 severe thunderstorm warnings in one night, one bringing us golfball sized hail, the others nickel.

What a contrast to June 2004, when supercells rocked my world almost every single night that month.
No lie! we lost power for 5 days! Seems like there was a storm everynight for a month! We got 17 inches of rain in southern tarrant county in one night. We have a bridge off 360 that you can see from the highway that is an arch form. It has debris in it from all the rain rushing though there. It was unbelieveable. There is also a creek that goes though the golf course and the cart path/bridget was washed away. They chose not to rebuild

I remember that April 03 hailstorm too. I was on Central Expressway at the time.

It is amazing how the SPC shows T-storms and may be even strong T-storms reaching Houston, but the NWS currently has us forecasted to be "partly cloudy" for the next two days. I am sensing some disagreement here. I think the whole question right now is WILL THE CAP HOLD? If the cap can break down this way, then I think the slight risk area will be extended southward. What are you guys' thoughts on this situation?

It's frustrating for the running 12 month period we're 25 inches behind on rain and thats after 2 inches of catchup hte last 3 weeks or so. This happens every so often, its weird I was talking to a friend of mine today about how this will be four severe weather seasons in a row where it skips the souther plains for the most part. HOWEVER, it is still early, peak severe weather for us is in May and we're not even a week into april yet so I dunno that we should totally jump the gun on this deal.
