What was the largest outbreak of 2006?

Had 140 tornado reports...Only 53 of them where confirmed...I really don't get that to much. But it had by far the most f3 with about 12...In had the years only f4. About a little over 650 severe weather repots. In the event all together was the largest at 84 confirmed...


April 2nd had 82 reported tornado's...With 52 confirmed which is much closer. It happen in less then 6 hours. It was also the deadiest with 28 death. 872 severe weather reports.

April 6 through the 8th...48 reported for the 7th and 21 reported for the 6th makes 69 reported...By far the smallest reported event...But is likely to grow...Killed 12 people...almost 700 severe weather reports.

I have to give it to March 12th because it had the most powerful tornado's by far. Even so It did not have the severe weather reports or live up to its full number.

I do believe it is only early April still...

I'd say the worst outbreak is the March 9-12th one, so far of 2006.

I still think the "BIGGEST" outbreak is yet to come. My guess is that it will happen during late April or early May.

Indications are a heat ridge will set up over the Plains during the last half of April and maybe the beginning of May, practically shutting out the severe during that time period.

Agreed on all counts. I think the outbreaks will quiet down for a while. However, after that, activity moves northward...

Exactly... tornado reports should not be confused with confirmed tornadoes. A long-tracked tornado can bring in a large number of tornado reports.

That is a pattern change... so yes. But it is too early to tell what later in May and June will bring.

However, this is not set in stone, and severe events could still occur, though not the huge outbreaks of late.

The threat for a large scale tornadic outbreak for the rest of april is small, IMO, but i think places further north will get in on some nasty weather. Places like MN, wisconsin, michigan, maybe even new york will start to see an enhanced risk of severe weather come next week. I think there will be tornadoes, but like i said a major outbreak isnt looking that possible.

I was looking at the GFS it has a nice vorticity max moving south of Lake Erie Saturday. Anyone else think there could be some severe weather then?

I feel your pain. At one time last week, I thought the system for this week had some promise, but as usual, it'll be more of the same. I can't remember a time when we had so many years in a row of virtually nothing for a severe storm season here. It's almost like the climate doesn't have a spring storm season for us any more.
