SVR T-Storms dump 1" diameter hail here

#1 Postby Stormsfury » Sat Apr 08, 2006 3:23 pm

About 4:10 pm this afternoon, a line of severe thunderstorms dumped 1" diameter hail for a period of 5 minutes here locally. The storm was accompanied by frequent cloud to ground lightning, and very heavy rainfalls (much needed).

A very exciting afternoon as this was the second batch of thunderstorms which prompted severe thunderstorm warnings for Southeastern Dorchester County in South Carolina...

This is the first hailstorm to strike the region in 4 years, fortunately there have been no reports of damage with this storm thus far.

The same parent supercell thunderstorm embedded within the cluster of storms has now spawned a confirmed tornado by the public in Daniel Island, SC (Charleston area) and also reports of hail covering the ground in the West Ashley region of Charleston ...

A very active day for the Lowcountry of South Carolina... one of the most active in a long time, and the first significant SVR WX outbreak of the season.

The biggest hail I have seen in pea size, if not small marble.

That sounds like quite the action you guys are seeing out there in South Carolina.

Btw...We saw 40mph winds with the incoming line of storms, 1" hail and heavy rain. I have more pics I'll put up later...They're huge, cause I have a fairly high end cam.

Nice and welcome to the board SCMedic...

my digital camera is on the fritz, think it's the memory card .. I took some photos on the hailstorm but they did not come out... Only one pic came thru and it was after the hail had almost already melted. I managed to pick up one or two hailstones and took one shot of it after it had melted down some...

at one point, hail was covering the cement under my verandha, and the hail only lasted about 5 minutes, but very very exciting, and a bit nervewracking.
