Forest Fire on Tussey Mountain

#1 Postby DoctorHurricane2003 » Tue May 02, 2006 12:52 am

Right after my second final today, I walked outside and smoke was everywhere. I went to the top of the weather building there was this huge ~300 acre wildfire. You can see it from this sat image:

It's kind of hard to tell which one is PA, but if you don't look too closely, PA is the state at the top. In the dead center of the state is a red dot, and if you look northwest of it, there is this small white plume coming from the fire. Quite easily visible.

Drought conditions are getting worse here by the minute. This particular one was just caused by a tree falling on a power line which ignited the dry fuel.

It looks like it's coming from the vicinity of Skimont (Boalsburg), is that right, Doctor?

That's about right...a little further east though. Tussey Mountain is behind the chain that ends at Mount Nittany and the fire was nearing the crest of Tussey.
