Severe Weather, Wisconsin 6/6

#1 Postby tidesong » Tue Jun 06, 2006 7:19 pm

I'd really like the NWS to stop issuing tornado warnings. It's freaking me out. Two tornadoes reported on the ground, west and northwest of Madison. I'm watching the sky very carefully, I think it's about to get interesting.

There is a report of debris on the Interstate near Montello that caused a semi to overturn. Unfortunately, that means there is traffic stalled, and the tornadic part of the cell is heading right for that area.

I'm trying to determine if it's safe enough to go chase.

It wasn't night yet... there was plenty of sunlight left, so I went out with my dad. Saw some impressive clouds, and a possible wall cloud and funnel. My gallery is here:

Wish I hadn't been in a moving car, the pictures probably would have turned out better!

Sure did! They didn't expect any tornadic activity with those storms!

NWS did their survey. It was determined that there were three tornadoes. There was one in Columbia County that touched down just east of Wisconsin Dells. It was on the ground for about 45 minutes, traveling 16 miles, and was rated an F1.

The second was a brief touchdown just SW of Spring Green. It did no damage, and was an F0.

The third was a brief touchdown just west of Barneveld (what IS it with that town?). A house was damaged. It was rated an F0.

I can't seem to find anything on the Iowa tornadoes, I wonder if they were declared false?
