Heavist rain in EONS yesterday!
The monsoon season went into OVERDRIVE yesterday, a staggering 3.10" fell in 2.5 hours yesterday causing MAJOR street, small stream and urban flooding.....the 3.10" put us WELL over the average to date of 6", I'm now at 8.76" and MORE to come today
Hail depth recorded at the house around 1600 hrs. measured 2", hail depth at the offical recording station was 2.5"....needless to say, it was ONE heckuva storm

There has been some relief from the drought with areas of AZ that have seen heavy rains going from Extreme or Exceptional down to Moderate. If we could sustain above normal precipitation anomalies through the Fall and Winter and next year's monsoon we could make a real serious dent in the precipitation deficits. This is our 10th year and these 20 year Droughts tend to last about 10 years or so so hopefully we are seeing the end. However, I won't go on that bandwagon just yet. I want to see a wet September and October as well.

That sounds like my kind of weather. I estimate that I got a good 1 inch of rain yesterday over about 2 hours, and there was some pretty vicious lightning (although it wasn't frequent, it's just what was there was pretty powerful). We also got a good 10 minutes of quarter-sized hail (hail of any size is rare here for more than a couple of minutes). But really, that weather sounds very nice! It's been a pretty wet monsoon season up here, as well, and I love it.

I hope this is the beginning of the end. I'm very pleased for all of you that this one seems to be a good one - FINALLY!
