Ok all we are in July and before you know it Fall will be here and then comes the winter storms.................So now is time to think of what this winter may bring for your area.......................I would also like to mention that this will be the place to be for your winter weather info and discussion.........................And now would be a good time as well to mention any ideas you may have for our forecasting Dept!................We do have some things already in the plans so if you have any others let us know...............The plans will be known too all once everything is worked out.............. Ok everyone now start making your predictions for the up comming winter and i will share mine very soon...............

Not being a "met" has its disadvantages (my focus, wx-wise, is SAR/FEMA and preparedness)...but I'd be happy to hear prognostications regarding the SE MO area for Winter 2003-4; PM me, or E-mail me when you have your models up!

IMO - it is never too early to think about winter! However, I really don't have a clue what this winter will bring. I have read some things about this upcoming winter being "average" for temps and snowfall in the midwest/northeast - but I will hold off on making any predictions until the fall.

King - I would certainly be interested in your perspectives regarding the upcoming winter.

Never too early to start thinking about winter here...last year the first snowfall was November 1 and the last was April 26. We finished the season with about 160 inches. Suprisingly, there was only a few major storms. We had...I'll guess 12...snowfalls over 6 inches, but other than that, we just got a couple of inches every day...it seemed like it would never end!

About this coming winter...it shouldn't be as cold as last winter, which is good. LAst year was our coldest in 25 years, so I'm not expecting a repeat. The lakes should stay warmer, and lake effect feeds off of warm lakes. This alone will probably produce more major storms for our area...but, I don't expect snows every day like last year, so I'll say 4 snowfalls over 12 inches, and a total of 140 inches of snow...

Well, winter didn't happen here last year. All the snowstorms stayed to our north in TN or far northern GA. Not sure if this area will see anything that stays on the ground for more than a day, but we are certainly overdue! The only winter weather I saw last year was in upstate NY visiting relatives on Thanksgiving. It was snowing pretty good while we were there and was a pleasant surprise!

With all the Rain we had in the Northeastern USA here this Spring/Summer so far. I would expect a far worse Winter this coming season.

I'm looking for avg temps, and above average snowfall, Cincinnati should IMO have at least 1 12"+ snow this winter!

My prediction for central Florida this winter... No snow and more rain than the last three winters.

I think this winter will be significantly warmer. There is a slow progression of the ridge eastward, which means that in time for the winter, we will be in the ridge. The SSTs in the North Atlantic are configured differently than last year and moving towards supporting a more positive NAO. Since we probably aren't going to have an El Nino this winter, we won't be able to get the nice +PNA pattern like we had last winter and that will also mean not as much precip. However, if snow cover builds up enough over the summer and ridge doesn't come back, we could just as easily have another cold winter. Statistically speaking, though, it isn't likely for there to be two cold winters in a row. Given that, I lean towards and relatively warm winter, or maybe just a neutral one.

Last winter was pretty cold down here, I think the first week of Feb. was the coldest weather since 1996. We had lows in the teens! It's just hard to think about winter when it's blazing hot and humid outside and July 18 . Stay cool everyone.

.......but if you know me, I'm really hoping that the MA gets another good frigid, snowy winter so I can shovel 36 inches of snow!!! Yeah, my entire life is driven by my snow obsession!!! Snow is the reason I got interested in money!!
