High winds in Texas
Since this topic is not confined to just SE Texas, I have started a new thread. Below you can post reports and discuss all the latest wind conditions around the entire state. The main high wind day will be tomorrow when winds will gust to 40-50+mph in many areas.
Take a look at the amazing winds pounding the panhandle right now though(7pm):
Perry Loafers field (NE Panhandle) = N 47 G 63
Perryton = N 45 G 61 MPH
Amarillo = N 36 G 52 MPH
These wind speeds are amazing! They are comparable to what Houston saw during Hurricane Rita last year. Hopefully everyone in those areas will be safe tonight!

Its been awhile since we have had an extratropical wind event. Tomorrow should be fun in the downtown Houston canyons. I am expecting 50MPH gust between the buildings. It will be time for weather smoke breaks

yeah, those canyons can get kind of crazy. I was down there after another wind advisory day (less than what is expected tomorrow) and many large branches were taken off the small street-lining trees.KatDaddy wrote:Its been awhile since we have had an extratropical wind event. The winds in Dallas will probably begin to pick up within the next hour or so. Supposedly the front is currently moving at nearly 50mph and it is already just west of Fort Worth!CaptinCrunch wrote:AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...UPDATED

I lost power for 3 hrs. this morning and then right after my last S2K update I lost it again. Just recently it is back on. The last time I lost it, it was due to a HUGE transformer explosion about 100 feet away. Flames were shooting everywhere. It was crazy!vbhoutex wrote:Currently experiencing sustained at 20-30 with gusts to 49 at 610W and I-10. Building lost pwoer temporarily once this am.
Right now I would say these are the highest winds so far that I have seen. They are probably gusting to 50mph and lots of small branches are breaking. Loose debris also keep being lifted and are blocking some roadways.
Crazy day indeed, and it will probably only get worse (around lunch time) before getting better...
