8-9-07 Severe weather

Looks like severe weather will be affecting the Lower Great Lakes/Ohio Valley area today. Latest SPC map:

Storms have fired up this morning. Severe thunderstorm warnings are currently in affect for Armstrong, Westmoreland, and Indiana counties in Western PA. When the storms went by the office this morning, we were on the far southern edge of them, but the sky turned pitch black and the clouds were rolling by. Didn't get any good pictures to post. Looks like this might have been the foreshadowing to this afternoons event. My home weather station picked up .39 inches of rain so far for the day with the first round of storms. Will be interesting to see how much we pick up as the day goes by.

there was a tornado warning for alleghney county...including the city of pittsburgh

A tornado was confirmed in the West End area of Pittsburgh.
