Mid-Atlantic Severe Weather - 8/10/07

#1 Postby brunota2003 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 4:28 pm

Surprised there wasnt a thread on this already. Nice line of severe storms moving through Northeast NC and moving into the Newport/Morehead City NWS CWA as I type this. Things ought to get interesting around here a little later today and I'll try to take some stills and video of whatever we get, if anything. There is also a Severe T-storm Watch out until 9 pm for 1" in diameter hail and wind gusts to 70 mph.\

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SATURDAY MORNING/...
LINE OF TSTMS FIRING OVER NORTHEAST NORTH CAROLINA INTO THE NORTHERN
PIEDMONT AND PROGRESSING TOWARD OUR CWA. WITH CAPE VALUES UPWARDS
OF 4000 J/KG...ANTICIPATE STORMS WILL QUICKLY STRENGTHEN WITH WIND
DAMAGE BEING THE PRIMARY THREAT. OUTSIDE OF RAIN AREAS...ANOTHER
WARM AND MUGGY NIGHT WITH MINS WITHIN A FEW DEGREES OF 80.

Wind gust of 62mph reported in New Bern. I was down in Beaufort when the storms came through. when I got home, some of my plants on my porch had been blown over and .57 inches of rain fell. First significant rain this month.

We had some minor debris fly through the air, mainly pine needles, leaves and some trash as the outflow boundary pushed through. Estimated winds of 30 mph, which fits nicely with Cherry Point's 30 sustained with a gust to 47. I have a bunch of video for today, including some time lapse that I will upload later on, letting the camera go to try to get some cloud-to-cloud lightning. I also took some stills. Recorded 0.51 inches of rain here.
