Eleven-month rainfall - record low: The total rainfall for January to November for Perth this year was 461.6 mm on 95 days, making it the driest such period on record for Perth. The previous driest was 496.3 mm on 93 days in 1940. The average for this period is 846 mm.

This spring the rainfall in Perth was below average. From September to November, Perth received 121.2 mm over 32 days compared with the average of 156 mm over 30 days. It was Perth's driest spring since 2004, then 105.8 mm on 33 days. Last spring, Perth recorded 157.2 mm over 40 days. Rainfall totals for individual months this spring were: September 86.4 mm (average 81 mm), October 18.6 (average 53 mm) and November 16.2 mm (average 22 mm). The wettest day was on 11 September when 22.0 mm of rain was recorded.

Adelaide
November
Adelaide's rainfall for November 2006 is 16.6mm, recorded on 7 days. This is 15.9 mm below the average of 32.5 mm on 8 days. This was the driest November since 2003 when 11.4 mm was recorded. Last November 79.6mm was recorded on 7 days. The driest November on record were in 1982 and 1996 when the monthly totals of only 1.2mm were recorded.

Spring
The total rainfall for Spring 2006 was 50.2 mm. This has been the driest Spring since 1982 when 44.6 mm was reported. Last year 227.2mm was recorded during Spring. The average Spring rainfall is 142.4mm.

Winter/Spring
This has been the driest winter/spring period on record with only 110mm being recorded. The previous driest winter/spring period was in 1914 when 133mm was recorded. On average 368.2mm is recorded for the same period.

2006 To Date
The year to date rainfall is 269.4mm and is the 3rd driest year for the same period, and is the driest since 1967 when 246.8mm was recorded. The driest on record occurred in 1959 when 237.7mm was totalled. The average is 525.6mm.

Melbourne
Melbourne CBD received 71 mm of rain (normal: 175 mm), the average minimum temperature was 10.6 deg C (normal: 10.4 deg C) and the average maximum temperature was 21.4 deg C (normal: 19.5 deg C). Several suburbs experienced their driest Spring on record. The combined winter-spring rainfall for the city was only 165 mm, the lowest on record (previous record: 175 mm in 1982).

Hobart
Another dry month: The repeated southerlies meant that a patch of the southeast and parts of King Island had near-normal rain for the month, but these were very much the exception. Although only a handful of sites in the north had their lowest total November rainfall on record, (and a few more had their lowest for at least 20 years), much of the north and east was once again much drier than normal. The highest rainfall for the whole month was 158.6 mm at Mount Read, well down on what would be expected for November.

Sydney
The total monthly rainfall of 44.6mm was below the historic November average of 83.3mm. There were 12 rain days, which is also slightly above the historic average of 11 rain days. Much of the rain fell during the first half of the month. While some northern suburbs received falls of 60-70mm, several far western suburbs recorded less than 20mm. Metropolitan rainfall totals ranged from 74mm at Turramurra in Sydney's north to only 16.8mm at Penrith in the far west.
Rainfall in the Warragamba Dam catchment area during November was mostly light with totals generally less than 50mm.

The total monthly rainfall of 253.8mm at Observatory Hill was slightly above the historic spring average of 230.0mm. There were 25 rain days, which is slightly below the historic average of 33 rain days. Most of the rain fell during September (192.2mm) with October and November receiving below average rainfall. Most of the metropolitan area received above average rainfall during spring except for the far south-western suburbs which recorded significantly below average rainfall. Spring totals of around 300mm were recorded in some northern suburbs (highest 306.8mm at West Pymble) while in some western suburbs totals were less than 150mm (lowest 107mm at Willmot).

Canberra
The monthly rainfall total of 41.8mm was well below the historic November average of 64.1mm and the lowest since 2002 when 10.4 mm was recorded (the driest November was 2.0mm in 1994). There were 7 rain days, just below the average of 10 rain days. A.C.T. rainfall totals ranged from 51.0mm at Ainslie to 18.4 mm at Tharwa.

Canberra Airport experienced its second lowest total rainfall on record for Spring with a total of 64.0mm (average 181.3mm) with the lowest occurring in 1957 when 46.1mm was recorded. There were 16 rain days during Spring which was well below the historic average of 30 rain days. Rainfall across the A.C.T. varied from a high of 71.8mm at Ainslie to a low of 32.8mm at Mawson.
