26th of July - germany gets lashed

#1 Postby Bunkertor » Sat Jul 26, 2008 3:18 pm

Values up to 2000 CAPE lead to enourmous storms mainly in western germany.

City of Dortmund recieved 200 l / m^2 within 2 or 3 hours.

Friendly match Dortmund-Juventus canceled.

So, a liter, IIRC, is one hundred cc. 20,000 cc in 20 liters? (I keep a calculator at work, I am at home). 10,000 cc in a square meter. About 2 cm of rain, or less than an inch?

Is that right?

No, weight, 1000 cc in a liter, or about 8 inches of rain.

That would fit thunderstorms over a 2 or 3 hour period.

In American NFL football, they play in heavy rain, and snow.

They will play in rain and snow in football (soccer) as long as the field is in good condition.

Also, it might have been lightning to cause the postponement.

8 inches is right. Common german unit is millimeters which leads to l ( Liter ) / m^2 ( squaremeter ) automatically, so that´s ideal for retired rain nerds to measure on their own.

Firefighters recieved about 300 calls.

AFC finals were awesome, but no line visible in 2nd half. 80.000 deerhunters with frozen beers ( also irregular drinking conditions ) .
But not possible in soccer, because the ball needs to jump.

If you are talking about Giants/Packers, that was the NFC Championship, not AFC. :D

You could pour a little harder liquor into the beer for additional freezing point surpression.

That might be a sign of alcoholism, of course.

Hm.
100 miles to my south, where the rapists live, the found a way to prevent the death by freezing even during summer
But it won´t work for Green Bay due to separate usage

Additional information: The dark liquid is beer.

I remember a specific game--October 4, 1998 Seattle Seahawks at Kansas City Chiefs--where they had to stop the game for a while due to the heavy rain.

I remember the day very well. We were expecting plenty of rain that day, which wasn't a big problem since we planned on staying inside to watch the Chiefs game. After the first quarter, the stadium was pounded with rain, causing a 54-minute delay. The field was too flooded to play and water gushed toward the concourses like rivers.

During the delay, I found my father and myself outside in the rain battling a flooded street over ankle deep and a storm drain plugged with random junk. After some plenty of digging to aid in the draining of our street (which eventually eroded into a huge gap on one side of the road), we were back inside, just in time for the game to resume.

About 3 1/2 inches of rain fell at the stadium during the delay. All in all, our rain guage picked up nearly 7 inches.

...and the Kansas City Chiefs won the game 17-6, improving their season to 4-1.

We had 30 minutes of somewhat heavier Thunderstorms here nearby Frankfurt at 6pm and then some light ones at night. But nothing to worry about. There might have been the odd tornado or two elsewhere tho.

Later today might be a bit problematic for the Southwest/Western part of Germany but I hope we don't get more than a bit of rain.

We had some pretty powerful storms over here in the UK as well just recently as the heatwave came to brief end, got a very nice lightning display as it happens!

If the natives call it Deutschland, I don't know why nations with Romance languages favor something that sounds like Allemagne and we call it Germany.

No idea how 'King of Prussia', in Pennsylvania was named, although I do know the 'Dutch' in "Pennsylvania Dutch' are Germans, not Dutch.

New Braunfels, Texas was settled by the Prince of Braunfels, where ever that is. It was the Germans, Czechs and Poles (oldest Polish-American community in the US is Panna Maria, Texas) who supposedly gave the polka music to the Mexican cowboys in Texas, leading to a style of music sometimes called Norteño, Polka Norteño or Tejano.

It was the Czech and German immigrant settlers of Shiner, Texas that sent home for a brewmaster named Spoetzl, who started brewing the now famous Shiner Bock beer.
