Absolutely right guys. The storms you mentioned passed through here, caused considerable flash flooding. There were several cases of store roofs falling through in my area - thankfully no injuries. The heatwave has definitely moved on, we're struggling to reach 70 at the moment; and snow is forecast on the peaks of the Scottish mountains this weekend.

Yes, just to confirm: the UK record fell on 10th August when Gravesend (just to the east of London on the south side of the Thames Estuary) recorded 38.1c
However, many weather stations in the UK only produce data on a monthly basis so all figures are provisional until this has all been collated. In this particular case it was subsequently found that the highest temp recorded on the 10th was actually 38.5c (101.3f) recorded in a place called Brogdale, near Faversham on the north Kent coast - some 20 miles further east of Gravesend.
