Snow, heavy rain, and hail fall in Israel

#1 Postby senorpepr » Mon Dec 22, 2003 2:16 pm

The Hermon resort was opened to visitors on Saturday morning, after some 70 centimeters of snow piled up on Mount Hermon in the north of the country in a snow storm that began Wednesday night.

The resort management said that skiing will not be possible yet, because there was not enough snow on the mountain to enable safe skiing.

Snow also fell Friday in the Golan Heights, and the northern Galilee witnessed heavy rains and hail. As a result, rivers and streams in the region filled up. The storm is expected to end on Saturday.

Israel Radio that the largest amount of rainfall over the past 24 hours was recorded in Kibbutz Kfar Giladi - over 88 millimeters. 37 millimeters of rain fell in Jerusalem, and 23 millimeters fell in Tel Aviv.
