Wild in North
Added [Saturday September 11 2004 : 10:17:32 AM]
An unsettled, blustery day for many today as a deep area of low pressure moves Eastward just North of Scotland.
Showers will be heavy today, especially in Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland and Northern England. During this afternoon, a pulse of heavier rain will push into Wales and spread quickly East affecting the Midlands and later Northeast England.
This evening though is where the real issue is, as a trough on the Southern flank of the low swings round bringing heavy showers and damaging winds to Northern England and Southern Scotland. The worst of the weather is expected in Southwestern Scotland around 9pm, this will push Eastwards into Southern Scotland, Northern England then later into Northeastern England.
Winds will be locally around 45-50mph, however because the trough will be convective (i.e lots of showers) there will be an added problem of downdraughts which will increase gusts to around 80mph.
