Beijing - Endless Thunderstorms

#1 Postby wyq614 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 1:28 am

From Jun 13 (I keep it in mind clearly 'cause it's my girlfriend's birthday) this year, Beijing has never enjoyed sunshine that can persist more than 2 hours a time. Nearly everyday it is cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. And today, too. No sunshine is seen.

These days, if you want to go out, you definitely need an umbrella, 'cause thunderstorms can take place at any time. In suburban areas of Beijing, small numbers of hails are often seen, too.

There are always a few hours a day that the radar image shows something like this -

Reminding you that you need an umbrella at any time.

Looks like you have a very unsettled pattern out there, I remember a period of about 10 dats here in the Uk in April that showers and thunderstorms would always develop.

30 June, Beijing is struck by strong thunderstorms again. And today it is mostly cloudy now.

It's very anormal. Sunshine should cover Beijing these days. Folks in my forum indicates that a high remain stationary over the Okhotsk Sea for more than 20 days, allowing Mongolian cold vortex to occupy the area around Beijing. That's why the endless thunderstorms occurs.

What do you think of that?

ps: Now it is raining outside once again.

Not to get political, but im sure youve heard that they are trying to control Olympiad weather. Theres a theory that if you make it rain a lot, it cant rain after that for some time. This is what first came to my head. I have no proof, and it could very well be a normal pattern. just a thought.

haha, are you kidding? If these days we make it rain a lot, then it will rain less in August? I think it ridiculous enough! That's what weather control all about?!

Have the thunderstorms produced any tornadoes?

This was mentioned on the news; supposedly it's to clean the infamous Bejing smog, and wash all the dirty dinge off the buildings. ....One rather suspects they're using a few too many silver-iodide flares.
