They do have some snow almost every winter, so it isn't rare.

Well it isn't unprecedented, but it is somewhat unusual to see snow in South Africa, especially on the last day of winter. The event would have definitely be much rarer though if the snow would have fallen in Johannesburg like it did last year. Now that was a crazy event event: ( http://www.voanews.com/english/archive/ ... N=25237763 )

Yeah, we usually have about 6 days of snow a year on the mountains in the Western Cape, and then on the lower lying areas of the Eastern Cape and Kwazulu-Natal areas when a strong front pushes through. Last year was a rare incident in regards to the snow in Johannesburg, this year Johannesburg has received hardly any winter rain and instead had heatwaves with record temperatures for a few weeks. On the other hand here in Cape Town things are still 100% wintery, in September (the first month of spring) vast majority of the days were rain filled, and the month had a total of over 150mm which is 4x the monthly average. Hoping to see temperatures go above 20`C soon. Winter is starting to bore me
