This is the Oscars of the elections. Only one storm or weather event can become the 'Storm of the Year'. You have three days to vote.

The runner-up will be given an honorable mention.

There was no other more significant weather event in 2008 than Nargis. More than a hundred thousand people dead.

Ike would have taken it in a lot of other seasons....but there can only be one winner in this one, Nargis.

Very hard to look past Nargis.

Gotta go with Nargis. Lots of great candidates (some that didn't even make the cut by winning their month), but hard to overlook a catastrophe of epic proportions that makes Katrina look minor.

#2 in my opinion - Hurricane Ike

#3 in my opinion - the Super Tuesday outbreak

I see votes for the Houston-New Orleans snow miracle. In a lot of years, that would be a strong contender (the Gulf coast gets a hurricane landfall almost every year, although it is a bit more unusual for a direct hit on a major metro area, but snow?), but as much as I love the Houston-New Orleans snow miracle, the impact of the Burma cyclone makes it, for me, the clear winner.

April has no nomination since there was no clear winner (and neither would have been close to winning either).

No doubt it's Cyclone Nargis for me as well. #2 is Hurricane Ike and #3 would be the Super Tuesday Tornado Outbreak.

You guys are crazy. #1 and #2 are obvious, (and I already voted so I can't change this now) but the Super Tuesday Tornado Outbreak is tied for 3rd with an inch of snow?

Look at it this way. Tornado outbreaks are more common in February than snow is common in the south in December.

Ike made me miss the Cowboys exciting win against the Eagles, and USC decimating The Ohio State University, and it still didn't hold a candle to the human impact of Nargis.

The election isn't over, is it? And tens of thousands of dead people in a cyclone isn't winning?

Incredible beyond any stretch of the imagination Hurricane Ike becomes the Storm of the Year 2008.

It didn't win...somehow, Nargis didn't win.

Just speculating here, but perhaps those that don't closely follow the weather worldwide aren't aware of the devastation caused by Nargis. However, they may be aware of the more local devastation caused by Ike.

Just a thought.

I'm sure that is what it is, but even being directly affected by Ike, and being rather Texas-centric, there is more in weather than just Texas.

If one isn't aware of a disaster that dwarfed Katrina in death toll, or a Cat 5 near Taiwan, one isn't paying enough attention, and should at least have looked at Wiki for the contenders before voting.
