Antarctic Warming After All

#1 Postby Sanibel » Wed Jan 21, 2009 5:11 pm

One example often referred to by doubters of Global Warming, Antarctica, has turned out to be warming after all:

Using math formulas to fill in for missing data??? Must be using the same climate prediction equations that have incorrectly forecast the Earth's warming the past ten years.....MGC

The way that I read the review is that a statistical model was used to fill in the temperature data in the interior of Antartica prior to the satellite era. They call it interpolation but it sounds like extrapolation to me. Temperatures have been decreasing during the satellite era, but now data has been created for the prior era that is cooler than the present with the result that there has been an "increase" over the past 50 year period.

Now that the paper has been published it will not doubt receive a careful examination by persons expert in statistical analyses. One of the co-authors is Michael Mann of Hockey Stick fame. His methodologies have been questioned in the past. I'm sure this is not the last word on the subject.

There's a discussion by the authors of this latest work of what this research does and does not show here:
