AMMAN - The cold front which affected the country over the weekend, is expected to recede today, but the weather will continue to be relatively cold and partly cloudy.
No rain is expected for today, and temperatures are likely to increase, reaching a maximum of 12ºC during the day and dropping to a minimum of 1ºC at night, according to the National Forecasting Center.
Winds will be south-easterly moderate today with the possibility of frost formation in the badia and hilly areas.
Unstable weather conditions are expected in the country on Monday, due to a depression now centered over the Red Sea.
This will result in cloud formation, especially over hilly areas, with the possibility of scattered showers in almost all areas on Monday afternoon, the center reported.
Winds will continue to be southeasterly moderate to brisk, with maximum temperatures of 11ºC and a minimum of 4ºC on Monday.
It will be partly cloudy on Tuesday with a chance for scattered showers in the morning, especially in the eastern areas.
Winds are likely to shift to easterly moderate to brisk on Tuesday with temperatures similar to Monday's.
Until yesterday morning, the greatest amount of rainfall was registered in West Amman (53.7 millimeters) followed by Al Kourah area in Irbid (30 millimeters) and southern Adasiyyah near the Jordan Valley (23 millimeters).
Rainfall was negligible in the southern cities of Maan and Aqaba.
Meanwhile, until yesterday morning the rainfall since the beginning of winter has added 13.250 million cubic meters (mcm) of water to the country's nine dams - raising the amount stored to 125.330mcm.
The dams - Talal, Wadi Al-Arab, Sharhabil, Kafrein, Wadi Shueib, Karameh, Tannour, Waleh and Al Mujeb - currently hold 56.5 per cent of their maximum storage capacity of 221mcm.
Not even the pouring rain could stop the over 5,000 young contestants from massing outside Zara Expo over the past two days - there to participate in the second audition of the popular pop talent show, Superstar.
"The great number of participants means we have a lot of unrecognized talent here," said Rania Kurdi, the show's presenter.
"Diana Carazon opened the door for youth to feel that they also have a chance to gain recognition in the Arab world," she added.
No other Arabic TV show has ever achieved such success or attracted so many viewers as Superstar, according to observers.
Superstar, the Arabic version of the UK program `Pop Idol,' attracted millions of Arab and non-Arab viewers from all over the world.
