Forestry Tasmania is hoping for favourable weather conditions overnight to help contain a fire burning near Fortescue Bay on the Tasman Peninsula.
The fire escaped from a private property last month, but flared up again today due to strong winds.
Forestry Tasmania acting district officer David Brown says the at times during the day the fire had flames reaching up to 20 metres.
It is burning on a two-kilometre front in state forest and the Tasman National Park, but poses no risk to private properties in the area.
Mr Brown says it is difficult to say whether the fire will be contained tomorrow.
"There is a possibility of some rain late tomorrow afternoon and it may dampen down the fire sufficiently for us to put in some containment lines, but [with] the length of the edge that we are dealing with, we doubt we will have sufficient time," he said.
