ANKARA (AFP) - At least 10 people have died as a result of freezing temperatures and heavy snow that has blanketed Turkey for the past three days.
Four men, including three from one family, who had gone searching for scrap metal in a dump in the eastern city of Arapgir died of hypothermia, the Anatolia news agency reported Saturday.
Five other people died of exposure in Istanbul, Kayseri, Izmir, and Bursa.
A 16-year-old boy was killed by an avalanche of snow in the eastern town of Mus.
Heavy snowfall cut off 2,000 villages across the country.
Meteorologists expect temperatures, which plunged to minus 13 degrees Celsius (nine Fahrenheit) in Ankara and minus 22 degrees Celsius in the eastern city of Erzurum on Friday, to begin rising on Sunday.
