Complaints in Turkey on snow handling

#1 Postby senorpepr » Mon Jan 26, 2004 11:02 am

Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said on Saturday evening that the recent crisis relating to the heavy snowfall and storms, which paralyzed life in Istanbul, revealed the need for the "Reform for Local Administrations."

Yildirim said that the development of a region depended on the contributions from the people living in that region and added: "We want to transfer the services to local administrations. The centralized administration has lost its efficiency".

He stated that the reasons for the recent crisis in Istanbul due to the snow and storms was due to the lack of organization and that 17 different institutions were involved in transportation and infrastructure in Istanbul. He added that the widely distributed authority resulted in decreased efficiency."
