Heavy Rain Disturbs Life In Istanbul (not Constantinople)

#1 Postby senorpepr » Wed Jun 23, 2004 9:50 pm

ISTANBUL (CIHAN) - Several houses in Istanbul were flooded with rain in Istanbul this morning following a heavy downpour.

The houses in quarters of Alibeyköy, Küçükköy and Kaðýthane were flooded when the drainage systems were filled with excessive water and the waste water collecting system could not handle the rainwater. The Istanbul Water and Sewage Works was forced to pour the waste waters into the Golden Horn to prevent the inundations.

The Alibeykoy Primary School was also among the places flooded. Students and teachers in the school were evacuated by Fire Services.

The weather forecast calls for rain to likely continue until evening.

Heavy rainfall in Bursa also disturbed the daily life; several houses were inundated with water.
