Some high winds in Scotland tonight,80Mph gusts possible

#1 Postby KWT » Sat Sep 11, 2004 1:36 pm

while you people in the U.S are having your own very high winds, well us in the UK don't seem to be wanting to be left out!!!

this is from Metcheck:

Wild in North
Added [Saturday September 11 2004 : 10:17:32 AM]

An unsettled, blustery day for many today as a deep area of low pressure moves Eastward just North of Scotland.

Showers will be heavy today, especially in Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland and Northern England. During this afternoon, a pulse of heavier rain will push into Wales and spread quickly East affecting the Midlands and later Northeast England.

This evening though is where the real issue is, as a trough on the Southern flank of the low swings round bringing heavy showers and damaging winds to Northern England and Southern Scotland. The worst of the weather is expected in Southwestern Scotland around 9pm, this will push Eastwards into Southern Scotland, Northern England then later into Northeastern England.

Winds will be locally around 45-50mph, however because the trough will be convective (i.e lots of showers) there will be an added problem of downdraughts which will increase gusts to around 80mph.

Here's the latest on the depression:

ADVANCE WARNING OF SEVERE WEATHER

Here is an ADVANCED WARNING of Heavy Rain affecting Scotland, Northern Ireland, England and Wales.
Issued by the Met Office at 09:00 on Sunday, 12 September 2004.
A vigorous depression is developing to the west of the British Isles and the Met Office is forecasting its associated active frontal system to cross the UK late Sunday and into the first part of Monday. Heavy, and in places prolonged, rainfall is expected, especially in parts of western and northern Britain. 30mm or more is likely in places, perhaps exceeding 60mm on some western upslope regions. Winds gusting to 60mph may accompany the rain in exposed areas of England and Wales.
Later in the period, the depression centre is expected to move right across the UK bringing further bands of heavy, thundery showers as well as strong to gale force winds. A further 25-50mm of rain could occur in places, especially the west. Localised flooding is likely.
For enquiries regarding this warning - please contact your regional Met Office.
Transmitted by the Met Office at 09:00 on Sunday 12 September

This warning will be updated at around 0900 tomorrow, Monday 13th September, unless superseded by Flash Messages.

Ha yep.

I don't like the look of Karl one bit as if it re-curves northwards,we may have alot of problems with a very intense LP,I'm sure METO are watching this one closely, like with ex-Frances.
