Solar minimum is coming, but it's not here, yet; there's still plenty of solar activity. Witness these hot prominences spilling over the sun's western limb on Oct. 16th.

Gary Palmer of Los Angeles, CA, took the picture using an "H-alpha" filter precisely tuned to the red glow of solar hydrogen.

A solar wind stream flowing from the indicated coronal hole might hit Earth's magnetic field on Oct 22nd or 23rd.
