From the accounts, probably more of a damaging wind/flood event than a hailstorm.

Here's a satellite image. I don't know when it occurred, but it seems that a couple of supercells or maybe bows passed over the area. This was the first, and probably stronger one (evidenced by the cooler cloud tops).

Yeah sounds like a serious storm but hail was the least of the problems and just a sign of the severity..

hailstorm in Vietnam

#3 Postby binh » Tue Nov 28, 2006 9:27 pm

Yes, it is terrible in Vietnam. In three days, hailstorms affected few provinces. I really want to do a case study about this. Without radar data, anybody can give some advices? is there any article useful? Thanks.

Hey binh, do you live in Vietnam?

You could discuss the synoptic conditions that led to this. It's pretty rare since usually the NE monsoon shuts off the moisture in the area. Also noted are the +SSTAs in the SCS which is indicative of a weaker NE monsoon.

Yes, I live in Vietnam. Hailstorms appeared in Northern VN in three day: 19,20,21 Nov 2006, from west to east day by day. So I really want to do a case study. Synoptic conditions were NE monsoon in the north, under upper-level southwesterly flow. If all of you have any useful data about this, please give me. Thanks a lot

reminds me of the movie, THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. (Remember the hailstorms in Asia at the beginning).

Hmm, who knows...may be this is a sign that a major ice age is about to begin? lol.
