Tax Free Week to Prepare for Hurricane Season


It will be cheaper for those who do decide to prepare for hurricane season.
You can buy certain tax free hurricane supplies from June 1st through June 12th.


Eligible Hurricane Supplies
Portable, Self-powered Light - $20 or less
Portable, Self-powered Radio (two-way, or weatherband) - $50 or less
Tarp or Waterproof Sheeting - $50 or less
First-aid Kit - $25 or less
Anchor System
Gas Cans - $25 or less
"A", "C", "D", "6-Volt", "9-volt" Batteries - $30 or less
Food Storage Cooler - $30 or less
Portable Generators - $750 or less

We get tax-free weekend before school (but I don't have any kids) and we *might* be getting on for the holidays.

We need a tax-free hurricane shopping weekend here.

Here is some info to elaborate on eligible items for the hurricane prep tax holiday in FL:

Tax holiday - Qualifying items selling for $20 or less:

• Any portable self-powered light source

• Battery-powered flashlights

• Battery-powered lanterns

• Gas-powered lanterns

• Candles

Qualifying items selling for $25 or less:

• Any gas or diesel fuel container

Qualifying items selling for $30 or less:

• Batteries, including rechargeable (listed sizes only)

• AA-cell

• C-cell

• D-cell

• 6-volt (excluding automobile and boat batteries)

• 9-volt (excluding automobile and boat batteries)

• Coolers (food-storage; nonelectrical)

• Ice chests (food-storage; nonelectrical)

• First aid kits (first aid kits are always exempt from sales tax, regardless of the sales price)

Qualifying items selling for $50 or less:

• Radios (self-powered or battery-powered)

• Two-way radios (self-powered or battery-powered)

• Weather band radios (self-powered or battery-powered)

• Tarpaulins (tarps)

• Flexible waterproof sheeting (visqueen)

• Ground anchor systems

• Tie-down kits

Qualifying item selling for $750 or less:

• Portable generator that will be used to provide light or communications, or to preserve perishable food in the event of a power outage due to a hurricane.

NOTE: Battery-powered or gas-powered light sources and qualifying portable self-powered radios will qualify for the exemption even though they may have electrical cords.

What about... You know, plywood, hurricane shutters, plylox or other plywood anchoring items? Apparently those aren't appropriate hurricane supplies as defined by our state legislature. Brilliant....

Hurricane shutters cost more than $750. That's probably why they arent covered. Also plywood isnt covered because they were afraid that builders would get it tax free that week. I would imagine the plylox would be covered, but they apparently are not. what would you save, a dollar?

Stay away from the Home Depots and the Wal*Marts for the next 10 days... I can only imagine how crazy it may get judging by last year's customer performances to get a few cents off here and there. I might get brave and venture out for a tarp or two though...
